Driehaus Museum: an Architectural and Historical Gem in Chicago

As a local community of design creatives and professionals, RNDD warmly welcomes the Driehaus Museum, an architectural and historical gem steps from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.

A Historical Building in the Heart of Chicago

This museum, housed in the opulent Nickerson Mansion, built in 1883, and the soon-to-be-restored 1926 Murphy Auditorium, stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Gilded Age and the enduring legacy of philanthropy and preservation.

The Driehaus Museum’s journey is one of resilience and revival. Initially saved by over 100 Chicago citizens in 1919, it experienced a renaissance under the stewardship of philanthropist Richard H. Driehaus between 2003 and 2008. Today, it is a beacon of art, architecture and design from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Bridging the Gap Between Historic and Contemporary Art

With a mission to engage and inspire the global community, the museum fosters exploration and ongoing dialogues in its fields. It offers an immersive experience where visitors can encounter the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions within the meticulously restored walls of the Nickerson Mansion. This setting showcases the exquisite artifacts and echoes the collecting interests, vision and focus of its founder, Richard H. Driehaus.

The Driehaus Museum’s strategic vision is rooted in accessibility, education and preservation. It aims to bridge the gap between historic and contemporary art, shedding light on our cultural heritage and sustaining the legacy of its benefactor. The museum is a living narrative that continues to evolve, aiming to establish itself as an autonomous entity renowned for artistic excellence in Chicago and internationally.

Welcoming the Driehaus Museum to our Chicago Design Community
