The River North Design District’s creative community has recently expanded to include culinary arts, and we’re thrilled to introduce our latest addition: Asador Bastian, a remarkable restaurant and bar in the heart of River North.
A Chicago Dining Experience Like No Other
Occupying the historic “Flair House,” built in 1883, Asador Bastian has rejuvenated this River North Gallery district townhouse. Drawing inspiration from Spanish grill houses and paying homage to Chicago’s iconic chophouses, the space has transformed into a dining experience like no other.
With a dark and moody atmosphere, it is the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion. With two distinct spaces, patrons can either pop in on the ground floor to enjoy an artisan cocktail at the bar or make reservations to dine at the upper-level restaurant, both open seven days a week.

A Chicago Chophouse with Basque Influences
At the helm are Chef/Owners Doug Psaltis and Hsing Chen, known for their acclaimed establishment, Andros Taverna, located in Logan Square. Andros Taverna earned the title of Esquire and Chicago Tribune’s Best New Restaurant of the Year in 2021 when it opened.
Psaltis and Chen have breathed life into Asador Bastian, seamlessly integrating it into the prestigious Eat Well Hospitality family. The restaurant focuses on top-notch steaks and exquisite Spanish meats, each meticulously curated to reflect the restaurant’s visionary culinary direction.

The menu offers an authentic gastronomical experience with dishes from Octopus a la Plancha to Tortilla Española. Chefs grill fresh fish and delicious 100% Akaushi steaks to perfection, sure to impress even the harshest critics. Each dish transports one’s taste buds through time and place to the grill houses known as “asadors” in San Sebastian, Spain.
A robust cocktail menu includes some classics and also some house specialties. They describe their martinis as the “coldest in town,” and with a name like “El Perfecto,” it is hard to disagree.
To end the meal, Asador Bastian offers an artisanal Spanish cheese plate or more traditional desserts such as their golden chocolate hazelnut cake or raspberry mil hojas, which translates to “thousand sheets” and is a dessert made by stacking puff pastry.

Consider Asador Bastian to Cater Your Next Event
In addition to its on-site dining, Asador Bastian extends its culinary excellence to catering, ensuring guests can enjoy the distinctive flavors and ambiance beyond its charming walls.
Located in River North at 214 West Erie Street, both the restaurant and bar are open seven days a week. To make a reservation or to inquire about catering, call 312-800-8935.
