The River North Design District (RNDD) is excited to welcome Chicago architecture and interior design firm, M Viamontes Architects LLC, to our organization.

M Viamontes Architects specializes in bespoke turnkey architecture and interior design. They are a full-service firm specializing in apartment and home renovations, new construction homes, and hospitality. With over 30 years of combined experience, they bring attention to detail and thoughtful solutions to every project.

About the Designers

Both Mindy and Michael Viamontes graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University where they met. Despite divergent career paths, the duo have always dreamed of running a practice together.

They are not married to specific architectural style or period. They work with the client and the project context to determine which style to pursue. First and foremost, the firm serves the role of Architect. They are team players and collaborate well with interior and landscape designers. However, many clients enjoy taking a more active role on the interior finishes and furnishings. In those cases, Mindy and Michael help with selections and space planning. On the other end of the spectrum, MVA can also provide full turnkey interior design services. Michael and Mindy’s skill sets are complementary: Michael leans more toward the technical side, while Mindy leans more toward project management, finishes, fixtures and furnishings, however they are both intimately involved in the details.

No two projects are alike – solutions need to be practical, but also thoughtful, elegant, and timeless. MVA does not believe there is such a thing as a blank canvas. There are always givens like sun, views, and climate to provide a basis for design. Taking the existing conditions into account, they listen to the clients’ programmatic and budget constraints. In renovations they enjoy mixing styles, but always strive to maintain the integrity of the existing architecture – especially in historic buildings.

A Client-Focused Approach

M Viamontes Architects’ creative process varies greatly depending on project scope and the clients’ personality. They never start a project with a specific idea or style in mind. Instead, they get to know their clients and take cues from their lifestyle to arrive at the big picture ideas. To convey those ideas, hand sketches, 3d models, and precedent images are used along with mood boards with physical samples of materials and finishes to help clients visualize the design intent.
