We’ve all been home for over a month now, working, cleaning and doing our part to stay safe and healthy. Be honest, you’ve already done a major closet clean-out haven’t you? Or maybe you’ve started changing out your wardrobe for the upcoming warmer weather. Either way, we’ve all spent some extra time evaluating our closets and what’s working and what is not. You might need extra storage or maybe the current storage combinations are not working for you. Maybe your lighting isn’t bright enough or things seem to be constantly out of sight, or out of reach.
Now is the time to take your closet design to the next level by creating an ultra-organized yet beautiful space. From choosing the perfect lighting and accessories to planning the perfect combination of storage components, designing your dream closet can be a very rewarding project.
We checked in with some of our RNDD Showrooms and Interior Designers to get some tips on how to design a closet that is both beautiful and functional.
Short on Space? Go Vertical
It seems like we never have enough storage. With small homes and city homes especially, you have to get creative and use every inch of space you have. When it comes to the closet, the easiest way to increase your storage is by going vertical. In this attic-turned-closet designed by Dresner Design, Scott Dresner built up shelving from floor to ceiling to store items like shoes and hand bags. See more here.

Add a Touch of Glamour to Your Closet
Elevate the glamour in your dream closet with stunning lighting from Arteriors, available through Casa Bella. The Nessa Collection is constructed of a brass frame and is adorned with clear fluted glass rods, all individually attached, adding the design’s glam quotient. MSRP ranges from $1975.00 – $3770.00. No Walk-In Closet? Try a Modular Storage System
Ethan is a modular storage system from Ligne Roset featuring a choice of three heights and single or double-width bays. With an enriched aesthetic, Ethan is available with a satin white or pearl gray lacquered door and brushed smoked-effect anodized aluminum frame and handles. Added to the usual interior fittings are dividing chests, jewelry chests, vertical LED lighting, hangers, anthracite leather-look fabric boxes, and new gunmetal-lacquered rectangular hanging rails. A Room for More than Just Dressing
This closet, designed by Luca Lanzetta Group/ Molteni&C, was for a special client who had some very specific requests for the perfect combination of storage, beautiful display and actual work space. It is so helpful when clients have specific wants and needs and a list of priorities for their closet from the start. This closet is the perfect combination of glass, metal, wood and eco skin leather which Molteni does best. In this way the designers at Molteni&C can make your closet feel like your favorite room in the house and a room you can actually spend time in or work in and never want to leave. Learn more here.

Add Extra Storage with a Chest of Drawers
Whether in your bedroom or in a closet, the Bosworth Tall Chest from the TA Studio Collection at Theodore Alexander combines the beauty of Cherry Wood in an almond finish with Brushed Pyrite metal edging detail. It boasts a modern, clean aesthetic, while providing ample storage with its five soft closing drawers. The Bosworth Tall Chest is also available in a darker Ossian finish with gunmetal edging detail. Both options, as well as many other styles, are in-stock and ready to ship at your convenience. Learn more here.

A Concealed Wardrobe that WOWS
This stunning closet exists in a 1400 sq. ft museum park condominium. Designed and engineered by Michael Miller, principal of Centaur Interiors, the goal was to maximize the space, while making it feel more of a living area, rather than just a closet by making everything concealed. The high gloss white lacquer cabinetry is contrasted by dark cherry architectural millwork ceiling panels. Accessorized by a black glass chandelier and indirect lighting, plush seating area, and a statement piece “Prada Popcorn” by Tyler Shields. This closet is not just for storing a shoe collection, but an entire concealed wardrobe with hidden bells and whistles. When designing your closet, the best advice is to take inventory of your belongings, utilize all the space, and make sure you have some extra room for more shopping! See more here.

Closet Design Tips from Centaur Interiors:
- Make room for tall boot storage.
- Inventory the number of handbags prior to design. Plan for “retail” storage where things are displayed, or more concealed storage.
- Always keep in mind reach and the height of the individuals using the closet.
- Plan proper lighting and protect clothing from natural light with UV film or window treatments.
Ample Storage with Luxe Details
Poliform and dSPACE Studio collaborated to reimagine an outdated master suite which resulted in custom floor-to-ceiling steel and glass doors which frame the smoked wood cabinetry in this spacious and dramatic master closet. The clients added luxe details including LED lighting throughout, glass shelving, handbag display, an abundance of shoe shelving, and a glass-top island with technoleather that showcases jewelry and accessories perfectly. With a chic island and illuminated shelving, this Poliform dream closet resembles an upscale boutique. Learn more about Poliform’s offerings here, and read more about the design of the project here.
