A Perfect Pair: Randy Heller Pure & Simple Interior Design and Oscar Isberian Rugs

It’s no secret the River North Design District is the ultimate destination for interior design. RNDD Designer Members often turn to our Showrooms when on the hunt for the perfect products to bring their designs to life. Nothing makes us happier than seeing the beautiful spaces that come out of these collaborations.

One perfect pairing we want to put in the spotlight is between River North Design District (RNDD) member and interior designer, Randy Heller of Randy Heller Pure & Simple Interior Design, and RNDD showroom member Oscar Isberian Rugs, located at 120 W Kinzie.

These three spaces, designed by Randy Heller, incorporate beautiful rugs from Oscar Isberian and demonstrate how rugs can truly transform a room. Not only can they add texture and color to a space, but the size and style can dramatically impact the design of the room as well.

“The antique-looking area rug – exclusive with Oscar Isberian Rugs – sits well with the old architectural style of this home. It provides an interesting contrast between the sculptural, modern, freestanding bath tub, vintage Bertoia chair and Serge Mouille light fixture.”

Randy Heller

The beauty of this rug choice for the bathroom is that it provides both contrast and glamour. The finely knotted Oscar Isberian rug is inspired by vintage, European needlepoints and is crafted in wool with touches of silk. The pattern is updated in its scale and subtle palette for a uniquely modern design aesthetic.

The entry sets the tone for this entire home. Here, the richly hued dark floor against crisp white walls required something special. That special something was this decorative, over-scaled Lily motif, an Oscar Isberian hand-knotted transitional rug in wool from Afghanistan.

“Pattern and Texture in these rugs add an exciting element to these rooms. In the entryway, the decorative motif adds a powerful, visual impact upon entering the home. The Flokati in the Sitting Room adds visual and textile texture.”

This Sitting Room has a proper feel, with organic elements and strong lines. Adding a billowy Flokati, with its undyed wool and fluffy texture, instantly changes the mood of the space, strategically slipping in a soft, sumptuous layer and just a touch of whimsy.

“This Moroccan rug provides a lovely anchor for the furniture grouping due to its color palette, pattern, texture and size.”

Randy Heller

There’s nothing like a Moroccan rug, with its primitive aesthetic that feels tribal and modern at the same time. This large piece from Oscar Isberian works beautifully in this space with its undyed, natural wool, its architectural pattern and its dimensional texture.

About Oscar Isberian Rugs: In 1920, there were eight rugs and a wheeled cart. That’s when Oscar Isberian, a young man from Wilmette, Illinois, co-founded Oscar Isberian Rugs with his brother Megerditch. The brothers traveled the world, discovering towns and villages where rug weaving is a way of life and carpets are a family’s most prized possession. The brothers brought back the best of what they found to sell in a shop that grew into Chicagoland’s premier Oriental Rug retailer, Oscar Isberian Rugs. Today, the third generation of brothers runs the business for the family. With over 30 years of experience each, Oscar Tatosian and Sarkis Tatosian have traveled the world and are considered experts at their craft. The brothers continue the tradition set forth by their Grandfather and Granduncle of discovering artisan rugs that will be in demand in their Chicagoland showrooms. www.isberian.com
